“For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.” 2 Corinthians 10
Sarah was just being logical.
Her husband, Abraham, had dreamed that he (and she) were to be the father (and mother) of a huge nation with people numbering more than the grains of sand on the oceans’ beaches.
The problem with this dream was the timing. Abraham was 100 years old, Sarah was 90 years old, and Sarah’s body had stopped the ‘baby making’ functions.
So, Sarah thought about the situation and her best solution was to send her young handmaiden, Hagar, to Abraham to get pregnant.
Hagar did indeed get pregnant and had a son named Ishmael.
Sarah was the “woman of the house” but, it was within her prevue to take such action.
Sarah actually denied herself and took action that she thought would be best for the nation that God was building.
And then, God spoke to Abraham and told him that Sarah was going to have a baby. Sarah overheard the conversation and laughed in her spirit.
God ‘busted’ her asking, “Why did you laugh?” to which Sarah replied, “I didn’t laugh.”
But, God had the last laugh. He said “This time next year you will have a son.”
A son was born, just as God said.
Sarah named him Isaac, which means “laughter.”
Shortly after Isaac was born, trouble began to brew between Sarah and Hagar.
Hagar was eventually forced to take her son and leave the safety and ease of Abraham’s protection and care.
But, God promised her that Ishmael would be blessed and would also father a huge nation.
It is believed that the arab people are descendants of Ishmael so, the nation of Islam is the result of Sarah’s logic.
Everything that Sarah did was the result of her ‘good idea’.
The problem with our good ideas is that often they are not ‘God ideas’.
The world has been forever changed due to Sarah not “taking every thought captive”.
EVERY THOUGHT.
Not bad thoughts, prideful thoughts, arrogant thoughts…
EVERY THOUGHT.
Why?
Because our mind is NOT righteous.
NOT “saved”.
NOT to be trusted.
What ‘logical’ thoughts are you entertaining right now?
Are you applying logic to relationships, spiritual battles, business?
We cannot walk a spiritual life using flesh tools.
Our mind is the ‘fleshyest’ of flesh tools!
STOP
Take EVERY THOUGHT captive.
‘Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.’ Romans 12
