“Mordecai sent this message to Esther: “Don’t think for a moment that because you’re in the palace you will escape when all other Jews (your people) are killed. If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?” Esther 4

I have spent a lot of time in and around Washington DC.

Lots to see and lots to do! In the whole world, it is truly my favorite town.

Washington is filled with memorials designed to help us remember heroes.

Some heroes were born to it. Their family tree and upbringing, their very DNA set them on a path to heroism. Almost unavoidable.

Others were ordinary people who, in the spur of a moment, performed heroically.

The story told in our scripture today is usually told with Esther as the hero.

There is actually much more to this story.

Mordecai had lived a long heroic life before the scene unfolds with Esther and the king. He was the strong string throughout this story.

Esther was orphaned. Mordecai rescued her.

Mordecai raised her to be a hero by showing her what heroism looked like minute by minute day by day and year by year.

Mordecai taught Esther how to be the queen, encouraged her to present herself as a queen candidate, acted honorably and heroically before the king, heroically led the endangered Jewish people and, in the time of greatest need reminded Esther of her purpose and the consequence of inaction.

Mordecai spoke the powerful and compelling words, “perhaps you were made queen (born) for such a time as this?

I share these thoughts today because I want you to know that as I am thinking about heroes, Father brought you to my mind.

He showed me that He is setting the scene for your heroic life.

Your life is a big deal. You are a son of God. You are free to be different than what you see swirling around you!

I encourage you today to see yourself differently.

You are not “just” a manager or mechanic, or teacher or janitor.

You are more than a chef or “boss” or doctor.

You are more than what you do for a living!

“Hero” is implanted in you.

Mordecais heroism was seen by the world when he led Esther to save the entire nation of the Jews.

But, he was taking heroic steps long before.

Mordecai lived heroically and passed on the legacy to Esther. And she in turn passed it to a nation!

STOP

Ask Father to give you a glimpse of yourself as He sees you.

Receive His version of you!

Ask Him for help to “be” that person.

This is the mark of heroes!

Who knows, perhaps you were born for such a time as this!

You have been prayed for today.
